An amalgamation, formed in 1810 of several small 18th century mines, including Wheal Betsy, Wheal Dellick, Wheal Dragon, Wheal Glyn and Wheal Joy, as well as Goonlaze Mine and Wheal Pink. Wheals Dellick, Dragon and Glyn worked on a tract of land on the west side of the stream: Wheal Dellick was on the west, just opposite to the
Most of these workings cannot not now be identified and their old names only persist in the lodes that were named after them.
The mine closed in 1819 and lay idle for several decades, except for a short period of small-scale working, presumably above adit, in the 1840s. During this time, Goonlaze Mine was eventually included with Wheal Kitty. In 1858, Blue Hills Mine was restarted and worked continuously until its closure in 1897. During this period, it raised 2,117 tons of black tin.
The extensive dumps in the lower valley date back to the last period of working, as does the engine house with its free-standing stack at Blue Hills Engine Shaft which was built in the 1860s to house a 70 inch pumping engine.
More recently, a small-scale tin concentrating and smelting operation, along with tin-streaming operations in Trevallas Coombe, was opened for tourists on the site of this old mine. Tours showing the process are conducted and tin ingots and jewellery are sold.
