A cave discovered during quarrying operations in 1947, on the farm of Adam and Katie Ohnmacht, located about 200 feet north of Tulpehocken Creek. After catastrophic regional flooding in 1955, US Army Corps of Engineers recommended 11 flood control projects in the Delaware watershed, including a dam at Delaware Water Gap (land purchased for the project, but never built - now the existing national park) and a dam on the Tulpehocken, creating Blue Marsh Lake.
The Tulpehocken dam was completed in 1979, resulting in the cave being covered in 25 feet of water. Prior to the dam's completion, some rock specimens and cave formations were preserved, portions of the cave quarried for fill material for the dam, and the remainder back filled with sand.
Ohnmacht cave was reported to be one of the most spectacular in Berks County, containing numerous speleotherms, such as bacon, rimstone, draperies, stalactites and stalagmites. These were reported to be composed of aragonite.
