A limonite-goethite- and haematite-rich gossan is aligned along a west-northwest-trending Pan-African fault that transects the Karoetjes Kop Formation on farm 629, some 13 km northwest of Lutzville. The Karoetjes Kop
Formation (Gifberg Group) contains quartzite with pyrite stringers, which were most likely the source of the supergene-enriched gossan (Cole, 2013).
