A former surface and underground asbestos mine located on 2 claims approximately in secs. 29 & 30, T5N, R19E, about 12 miles N of Sawmill on the Salt River, and about 15 miles east of the highway 60-77 Bridge (6 air miles). Started 1923. Reopened 1953. Discovered and initially owned by E.D. Reidhead; also owned by the Arizona Asbestos Mining Co. (1953- ); Phillips Asbestos Co. (1958- ); and, the Western Asbestos Manufacturing Corp. (1966- ).

Mineralization is numerous asbestos veins that occur in a zone from 25 to 30 feet below the diabase and appear more or less continuously along the northern side of the point over a length of nearly 2,500 feet (762 meters). Along this extent, the attitude of the limestone is quite constant, the strike varying between N.20º to 30ºE. and dipping from 20º to 30ºSE.

The stratigraphic sequence locally consists of 50 feet of Dripping Spring Quartzite at the base, overlain by 75 feet of Mescal Limestone, which in turn is overlain by 75 feet of diabase. Devonian Martin Limestone rests unconformably on the diabase.

Workings by 1955 include 2 open cuts, 2 shallow inclined shafts, and 2 adits with an overall length of 304.8 meters. Total production from 1953 through 1966 has been approximately 340 tons of crude ore.

Assay data: asbestos fiber ½ to 3 inches, soft fiber.
