A clay occurrence/pit operation located in the SW¼ sec. 5, T5N, R10E, MDM, 2.1 km (1.3 miles) NNE of Buena Vista, on private land. Operated by the Western Refractories Co., which leased the property in 1950. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters. The clay pit N of the Farci pit may be part of the same ownership.
Local rocks include Eocene nonmarine rocks, unit 1 (Northern and Central California).
Workings include surface and underground openings. Originally worked by room and pillar stoping method; later operations were by open pit.
Material from this pit was used until 1949 in the production of white portland cement. All material extracted under Western Refractories went into the production of fire brick.
