A Cr occurrence located in the SW¼ sec. 18, T13N, R11E, MDM, 0.6 km (0.4 mile) S of Volcanoville, on private land within a NAtional Forest area. Operated by J. A. Shields (1918). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
The ore was said to have been cut by a number of vertical faults. The serpentine is highly sheared. Local rocks include ultramafic rocks, chiefly Mesozoic, unit 2 (Western Sierra Nevada and Klamath Mountains) and/or Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
Workings include surface openings comprised of a 15 foot deep pit.
About 8 long tons of ore were mined in 1918. The location was apparently later abandoned.
