A former lode Au mine located in the NW¼ (estimated) sec. 8, T3S, R19E, 4.7 km (2.9 miles) W of Clearing House, along Miller Gulch (on the W side of Miller Gulch, ½ mile N of the Merced River and state highway 140, adjacent to the former property of the Yosemite Portland Cement Co.), on National Forest land. Discovered in 1855. Operated 1919 and 1927. Operated by W. J. Schofield and A. B. Smith (1927). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit with a vein 3 to 4 feet thick, hosted in slate and granite. The ore body is 0.91 meter thick. The footwall is granite and the hanging wall is slate. Little or no free gold. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
Workings include underground openings with a total length of 131.67 meters and comprised of 2 drift adits 90 feet apart, one above the other, connected by a raise. The lower adit is 432 feet long.
