A granite deposit/quarry located in sec. 23, T17N, R12E, MDM, 2.0 km (1.3 miles) W of Crystal Lake (town) and 5.3 km (3.3 miles) WSW of Signal Peak (coordinates of record). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 5,000 meters. Located 250 yards from the main Central Pacific Railroad track, 4½ miles from Emigrant Gap station at Yuba Pass, on National Forest land. A side track connects the quarry with the main line of the railroad. There is obvious uncertainty concerning the exact location of this quarry.

NOTE: USGS MRDS database file #10031972 places this locality in sec. 28 with geographic coordinates that locate it in Placer County. The location fits the description regarding proximity to the railroad but ends there. The coordinates presented in the other 2 MRDS files place it at the railroad near a tunnel entrance, and agrees with the distance from the Emigrant Gap station.

Local rocks include Tertiary pyroclastic and volcanic mudflow deposits, unit 9 (Cascade Range).

The workings include surface openings comprised of a pit that is small but well-situated. Equipment of site included a derrick, and a small steam engine.
