A former placer Au occurrence/mine located in secs. 4 & 5, T13N, R11E, MDM, about 5 km SSW of Michigan Bluff, along the Middle Fork American River at Horseshoe Bar, on private land within a National Forest area. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
NOTE: USGS MRDS file #10236754 presents geographic coordinates that place this locality in relative proximity of Horseshoe Bar; however, it places it on a crossed picks (open pit mine) symbol in El Dorado County. The other 2 MRDS files present coordinates in general agreement with each other; however, they both place the locality erroneously in the Indian Creek vicinity, Iowa Hill District. The coordinates presented in this Mindat file are the coordinates obtained from the topo map at the actual location of Horseshoe Bar.
Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
