GeneralTyrolite from Spain

15th Feb 2011 19:25 UTCLeon Hupperichs Expert

Hi,

I recently acquired a specimen from a old collection, dating back to the 1980's. The label reads just; Tyrolite, Spain.

It's a larger specimen and I am wondering if it is really tyrolite and if yes is it possible the find a more accurate location.

Specimen size 8 x 6 cm.

Many thanks in advance for any help.

Best Regards,

Leon.

Hello. I just arrived to the forum and therefore I apologize for my mistakes. I,m from Zaragoza and I'm not sure if there are any problems with the color of the photo, but it,s not like any Spanish tirolitas that I have in my collection, rather than on the crystallization, in its appearance and the color that is much greener. I have tirolitas from Cerro Minado (Huercal Overa, Almería), Gallinero de Cameros (La Rioja), Molvizar (Granada) and Clinotirolita from Villahermosa del Río (Castellón), but the pictures are not similar to my tirolitas.

Best regards and sorry for my english

Hi Leon,

Beautiful stuff, for sure!

Could perhaps be from here: Tyrolite from Delfina Mine, Ortiguero, Cabrales, Asturias

Cheers, Gerhard

The color of the pictures is correct, so the tyrolite is greener than usual for this species.

Certainly a strange colour for tyrolite - all the ones I've seen have been bluer than that. But the morphology looks OK. Maybe worth getting an XRD analysis?

Cheers - John

Maybe that colour is just on the surface; I'd like to see the colour of a freshly broken aggregate.
