Out of an old collection comes this very strange, broken topaz crystal with no locality (maybe USA if I look at the rest of the collection).

Measures 8.8 x 6.4 x 5 cm

It stands on a cleavage. One side is vertically striated, one side seems to be very oddly broken (no cleavage visible) and healed.

But the most important is the one surface with the "pockmarks" - six edged windowed crystal shapes raised from the surface, all "hollow" (impressed inwards like a window crystal - increased edge growth?), outsides are vertically striated. Can somebody explain this topaz to me and maybe suggest a locality?

Many thanks! Hu

Very strange crystal indeed! I haven't a clue, but by extending the thread with this response maybe someone who knows will see it and comment.

I do wish people would label their specimens! Label, Label, Label!

Is there similarity with this one from Ropp Tin Mines, Nigeria.

But I am no crystallograph.

Good luck.
