Improving Mindat.orgabout Foitite from Erongo
7th Jun 2013 08:00 UTCFerdinando Giovine
Hello Ferdinando, it is great to ehar from you. Tourmaline like the one shown, I collected there in 2003. Whenever the surfaces were very shiny and not broken into more fibrous structures, it was a good schorl with large but not dominant X-site vacancy. Once fibrous crystals formed, foitite was typically present. The micas we analyzed were mostly relatively low-Li muscovites and biotites with some higher Li-content.
best wishes,
Al

I guess Prof. Falster used EPMA for identification. I wonder what the F contents were - I had analysed fluor-schorl on some samples.
