An other funny thing about language... Almost all the islands have the nordic word for island in their name (øy = island), f.ex. Streymøy island then would be "translated" to Streym island island as it's listed in Mindat... I just can't help smiling each time I see it ;)
Cheers
Peter
PS: great job Karl! I have unfortunatly not so much to add, as my knowledge about collecting on Færøene is limited.

thank you for the work with Faroe locations. I have spent may weeks on Faroes for colleting, mostly in the 1974 to 1983 time frame. Also a little recently 2002 and 2003.
I will update the loaction information in some time with picture postings and use the actual writing from the maps.
Greetings
Volker

Famous mineral localities: zeolites from Iceland and the Faeroes. The Mineralogical Record. January-February 1981.
And good books:
Kristjan Sæmundsson and Einar Gunnlaugssson: Islenska steinabokin. Reykjavik 1999.
Fritz Schalkhausse: Fundstellen von Mineralien und Fossilien in Island. 2.Auflage. München 1984.

I started to add location names to the faroes locations. And I saw Peter Andresen also did (thank you !)
We should discuss which kind of names will be used: the Faroes or Danish ones. Maps over the last decades are different:
Older maps show e.g. Kollafjörður the newer (with faroes names) Kollafjørður.
Also the addition of Danmark after Føroyer is not typical for for the faroes writing. Like Scotland they claim to be a own Nation (and have own (inter-)national soccer team, like Scotland) and in fact
the 1:200000 scale map from 1971 is named: Kort af Danmark with subtitle Føroyer
and the 1978 issue is named: Føroyakort, Danmark is not anymore mentioned.
So my recommendation woud be:
In the english writing (and dansk) the addition Danmark is ok, because we look from outside. If the faroes witing is used then not, because they feel different.
Also to my opinion in earth sciences we should use more geographic units and less political. FØROYER is a very clear geographical unit (of Europe).
Greetings from Europe
Volker
