Thanks Wayne, not really sure if its a glue or an epoxy. But probably an epoxy, which has been mixed with ground rock to give it its brownish color.  Thanks again I will do a small experiment with acetone.

G.day Keith , thanks for the suggestions. At the moment all I have tried is manual removal the glue. Whatever I use Im going to have to soak the whole specimen, as the material to be removed is pretty extensive.  Im just unsure how the feldspar will handle it, they do have decent luster land ...
