Field of View: 1.1 mm

Nice intense red-purple cobaltomenite (analytical data shows Co:Ni ratio approx. 3:1) with small octahedra of a trogtalite-like mineral. Please take the time to study the other photos and analytical data. The matrix of the specimen consists of dolomite/siderite mostly altered to Fe-hydroxides. I refer to the article in Mineralogical Record April 1990. Quote : 'The dump material outside the mine contains only traces of primary mineralisation, but secondary selenium mineral and iron hydroxides can be found in the oxidized material.' The micro crystals of the trogtalite-like mineral are also a secondary formation grown on Fe-hydroxides and the high measured iron content hints in the direction of dzharkenite (both are members of the pyrite group).
