Caviodon

Description

Caviodon is an extinct genus of Late Miocene to Late Pliocene (Chapadmalalan to Montehermosan in the SALMA classification) rodents, related to the modern guinea pig. Fossils of Caviodon have been found in the Ituzaingó, Monte Hermoso and Río Quinto Formations of Argentina, and the San Gregorio Formation of Venezuela.
