Pyrite in large vugs of sandy, dolomitic Aux Train Formation (Middle Ordovician). Some of the vugs discovered were completely filled. This outcrop also contains numerous poorly preserved gastropods identified as the genus Ophileta. The total thickness of the outcrop at this location is about fifteen feet (4.5 m)
Note: Mineralogy of Michigan (2004) lists "Sault Point" as being in Alger County; however, Hamblin (1958) and Ver Wiebe (1927) both describe the site as being in Chippewa County near Pendills Bay. Most maps list the locality as "Salt Point".
