A small copper mine, working the eastern part of the Bahavella lode, which is located south of Standard lode of St Ives Consols and courses roughly parallel to it at a distance of 300 yards. The lode was opened up by several now obscured shafts in the area south of Wheal Trenwith, and by an adit from Porthminster Beach, just south of Pedn Olva Point, which follows the lode for 100 fms westwards. Within the sett, the lode was hosted in pale grey killas (clay schists) and carried copper and minor uranium ores. Further west, the lode enters granite and carries tin ores. This part of it was worked by Wheal Applin.
The grid reference marks the site of a shaft that was relocated in the early 20th century by a farmer who incidentally tried to build a shed on top of it. This area is now built over.
