Abandoned quarry in Proterozoic quartzite, now part of Rib Mountain State Park. The quarry opened in 1893. The resistant quartzite was worked by several companies, including 3M, for sand paper and abrasives. The quartzite is a large roof pendant in the Rib Mountain Granite, part of the Wausau Igneous Complex. It can be easily reached from several hiking trails, but collecting is not allowed.
