A copper mine which worked three EW-trending lodes in the area between the Tamar river and the road to Latchley. It was started in 1848 as South Wheal Josiah and initially occupied a very large sett, extending from Latchley in the north to Chilsworthy in the south and from the Tamar river in the east to the small valley between Coxpark and Latchley in the west. When operations were renewed in 1853, the sett boundaries were reduced and the mine renamed West Devon Consols. It continued working at least until 1862, when it was 40 fms deep. The grid reference marks the approximate position of Edith Shaft, as indicated on the Ordnance Survey map of 1907.
There are no records of output.
Note:
Not to be confused with the mine of identical name that is located on the Devon side of the Tamar river, within the sharp bend between Latchley and Luckett.
