In the south half of Lot 27, Concession III in Lount Township in the District of Parry Sound, a small plug of peridotite was mapped in the vicinity of an old pit and was revised in October 2009 by the Ontario Geological Survey and added to its mineral data inventory database.
Previous geological exploration work by Paul C. Mclean in 1992 investigated a copper, nickel bearing pyroxinite (peridotite) outcrop at this site. At the same time areas north of Lake of Many Islands and south of Spring (Fowke) Lake were mapped and explored for their mineral content aswell. Access to these sites to the north were made by ATC since the distances were much greater to travel than the site south of Youthdale Road.
This locality page represents the site south of Wa-We-Nek (Youthdale) Road in lot 27, Concession III only.
A small bush road leads south from Youthdale Road aproximately 300 meters to where a small field like opening in the forest is found. To the west edge of this field like opening is where the peridotite outcrop can be found. Explorative drilling occurred at this site.
No material was collected from this site.
