Historic gold mine.

This mine is known today largely from a walking track near Coromandel town that is named after it. The track leaves the main Ring Road, at the old colonial hospital, 1.5 kilometres north of the town. The Success Track zig-zags up the front of the Tokatea Range, passing several overgrown adits of various late 19th Century gold mines. One of these is the Success. For safety reasons, please do not enter the adits. A video has been posted in the reference section of the interior of the adit.

The Coromandel Prospecting Association formed the Success Gold Mining Company in 1880 to develop the property. Rich gold is reported in 1881. Peter Reid is mine manager. Activity by the company is found until around 1885, at which point it is abandoned.

James and party report finding rich gold in 1891, the mine re-named at this point the Try Again. The New Hauraki Gold Mining Company purchases the lease from James in 1895, a rich find is reported shortly after purchase, and several small crushings are further reported in 1897. The New Hauraki Company goes into liquidation, and the mine and ten stamp battery is sold by the liquidator in 1901.

Around 1902-03, the mine is on tribute to Daldy and Verry, and is re-named the Sea View. They discover gold in a leader, which is an off shoot from the main lode mined previously. Tenders are advertised for the Success battery in 1905. (Christie, et.al, 2007) states the mine has produced a total of 56 kg Au, and 17 kg Ag.
