Micaceous Hematite 'Shining Ore'.

Ref: Richardson P.H.G. (1991) Mines of Dartmoor & the Taymar Valley after 1913, Devon Books, Tiverton.
The site as shown in the Ordnance Survey maps lies along the course of the stream in a steep sided valley. None of the building features are obvious in the present day though the hatched linear feature shown on the 1888 map below the word (iron), possibly a waterwheel would correspond to the area that is now a flooded pool. The pond shown to the right on the 1957 map is still evident and the leat exiting the bottom corner of the pond still carries a lot of water.
There are far more shafts than indicated on either map though it is of course possible these are the result of collapses in more recent times. Both maps show a clear east-west track (dotted). Using the 1957 map for reference a line drawn north-south through the 'D' of disused would intersect with a level driven under the track. Presumably this lode was followed south as several shafts are apparent in that hillside. Furthermore on the 1957 map to the left is marked 'BM684.72' and bearing in mind the valley side rises steeply to the south a shaft is partly capped by wooden fence posts just south of the 'B' and there is some spoil containing hematite.
