Deposit: Bedded gypsum is poorly exposed mostly along the steep north side of the first drainage system north of hughes canyon. In the main area, exposed gypsum is unbedded or indistinctly bedded but generally strikes n55 to 90w, steep dips ne-sw, suggesting that the gypsum unit is considerably thicker than the maximum vertical and horizontal exposures indicate. A few other exposures on the claims As much As 0.3 mile away are too far apart to correlate or indicate thicknesses, but they suggest a relatively large deposit. Extensive exposures of phyllitic rocks south of the canyon bottom suggest a major fault along the bottom. Much of the gypsum is snow-white, sugary and friable. Some contains small amounts of iron oxide, but most of the gypsum is quite pure.

Geology: A much smaller gypsum deposit lies 1 mile SE on patented claim owned by u.s. Gypsum.
