A former lode Au-Cu mine located inn the S½ sec. 27 & in sec. 34, T4S, R18E, MDM, 1.2 km (3,800 feet) S of Colorado, purportedly on private land. Discovered before 1889. Property was comprised of 3 claims, ostensibly unpatented. Operated during the period 1897 to 1905. Operated by George Matlock. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.

One claim, the Old Standby, had 20 acres surveyed but unpatented. Formerly part of a group of 3, including the Simeon Landrum, but other claims have apparently been abandoned.

Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in hornblendite, granodiorite, porphyry and limestone. The ore body strikes N35-40W and dips 45SW at a thickness of 3.05 meters. Controls for ore emplacement includes an Accompanying clayey, altered dike, which is partially mineralized. The main vein is brecciated. A second vein outcrops 50 to 60 feet SW of the main vein and is roughly parallel. It is 4 to 5 feet thick, dipping SW50-65. About 400 feet NW of the end line of the Old Standby claim & slightly en echelon to the Landrum vein is a 2 foot thick vein of bluish glassy quartz with chalcopyrite. Bowen & Gray (1957) call the wall rocks granitic; Laisure (1928), categorizes them as a limestone & talc footwall and a porphyry hanging wall. Local rocks include Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains).

Workings include surface and underground openings with a total length of 271.27 meters and an overall depth of 27.43 meters. The surface workings may be caved stopes. The present owner does exploratory work.

Production data are found in: Bowen, O.E., Jr. & C.H. Gray, Jr. (1957).

This mine is characterized by pockets of very rich ore which are in places found in vein quartz and in others in disintegrated dike material. May be active. Open cut mining may be feasable.
