A former lode Au mine located in sec. 25, T4S, R18E, MDM, 2.3 km (7,400 feet) SE of Colorado (Colorado School), in the headwaters area of both Saxon Creek and Mono Gulch (W of highway 140, ½ mile S of Bear Creek Lodge), on National Forest land. Operated by Stockton and Eckter (1934-1936). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters. Adjoins the Santa Clara Mine on the same ore zone.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in greenstone. The ore body strikes N55W and dips 90 at a thickness of 6.1 meters (7 to 20 feet). Local rocks include Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include underground openings with a length of 132.59 meters and an overall depth of 15.24 meters, comprised of 2 adits and 3 shafts.
Production data are found in: Bowen, O.E., Jr. & C.H. Gray, Jr. (1957).
A small production occurred from pockets in 1911, 1926, and the period 1929-1934. Considerable ore was mined during the period 1934-1936, averaged $7.50/ton (period values), exclusive of high-grade pockets.
