A former placer Au occurrence/drift mine located in secs. 22 & 27, T11N, R7E, MDM, 4.7 km (2.9 miles) ESE of Rocklin, on the E flank of Mount St. Joseph (seminary location). Operated by W. J. Bade (1952). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters. Clark (1970a) refers to this mine as the "Lee Drift Mine."
Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).
Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of drifting operations. The drifting operations were in progress for a number of years (as of 191_ ?). The detrital deposit (pre-volcanic gravels) is about 1,500 feet wide and the gravel is 60 feet deep. The deepest channel worked is said to be 350 feet wide and was stated to lie 50 feet below "Stone House" along the road and contained chiefly quartz gravel.
Early production is not known. Production was reported in 1952, 1954 & 1956.
