A Au-As occurrence/prospect located in sec. 13, T11N, R19E, SBM, 3.9 km (2.4 miles) E of Homer Mountain, on the extreme eastern margin of the mountain, W of US highway 95. Operated by the Santa Fe Pacific Mining, Inc. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
NOTE: The USGS MRDS database file presents MRDS file #10286873 as a related file; however, it appears to be unrelated (similar name in sec. 7, T2N, R26E, SBM).
Mineralization is hosted in sedimentary rock, rhyolite and andesite. The host rock lies over Precambrian granites and gneisses. Tertiary rocks are fractured and iron-stained with hematite and limonite. Four Au zones are apparent from surface soil geochemistry - 1,000 to 1,200 foot lengths and widths in the 200 to 300 foot range. Arsenic appears to be the only trace element associated with the mineralization. Local alteration includes silicification. Local rocks include Tertiary volcanic flow rocks, unit 16 (Northern Mojave Desert).
Workings include surface and drill hole sampling. Santa Fe Pacific mapped the area in the mid-1950's and performed grid soil sampling in 1992. Echo Bay Mining sampled in 1988 and drilled 3 holes along strike of the projected mineralized trends.
Analytical data results: Anomalous soil geochemistry includes 20 to 406 parts per billion (ppb) Au. 200 to 500 ppb is common.
Analytical data are found in: Santa Fe Pacific Mining, Inc., information sheet.
