Five genetic types of quartz varieties are present: (1) chalcedonies associated to the Mesozoic “ophiolitic” complex; (2) polychromatic jaspers in Cretaceous conglomerates; (3) variously-coloured chalcedonies in Paleogene rhyolites; (4) siliceous nodules, jaspers and silicified wood within the Almaşu Mare Gravel (Badenian); (5) reworked chalcedonies and jaspers in Quaternary deposits.
