Perusing the Matildite gallery at the Clara, it looks like in addition to individual xls one also finds these matildites in epitaxi. It looks like they are oriented on chalcopyrite or possibly sphalerite? If they are on chalco, why do they only grow on some of the chalco xls?

Maybe a later generation of chalco with a slightly different surface chemistry that the Matildite liked more than the earlier one?

Yes, (most of) these are epitaxial overgrowths on chalcopyrite crystals.

Such matildite also occurs on quartz, however.
