PhotosWrong locality

17th Feb 2021 17:46 UTCHercule Shen Expert

This stuff is from Yunxiao Co., not Zhangpu, and "Zhangpu Mine" does not exist

18th Feb 2021 18:20 UTCUwe Kolitsch Manager

Uploader wrote me that he got the specimen from a Chinese guy who allegedly runs the mine himself.

19th Feb 2021 04:54 UTCHercule Shen Expert

It is easy to confirm, just ask him the mining company's name. If you check the satellite image, you won't think there is a mine. Maybe he tells a lie just.

In addition, the mine locality is backed up by reference in a peer-reviewed journal.

19th Feb 2021 04:52 UTCHercule Shen Expert

If you check the satellite image, you will know it is wrong. If you know Chinese localities well, you should know people never use a county's name to name the mine directly. If you mean 10.1007/bf02837834, it only says Zhangpu which means Zhangpu Co. only, there are mines for sure, around Fotan Township and Maping Township, I have not seen any coordinate in that article, if there are other articles, plz give me a link or doi.

For bauxite, NOT for beryl

For bauxite, NOT for beryl
Right. I was only referring to the mine, not what was in it.

More detailed info from uploader (in German - use Google Translate or something, I don't have time to translate all of it):

 Google translate:

I bought the Aquamarine from China in Munich in 2019 from a Chinese dealer who said he was the operator of the Zhangpu Mine. According to him, it is a small, private mine / outcrop near the Wuhshan Spessartine Mine, it is in Zhangpu, however, is about another pegmatite that has a similar geology. In both pegmatites there are excellent Spessartines, in Zhangpu no Helvin has been found so far, but in the edge area of the pegmatite light blue and delicate rose beryls and combinations of both on smoky quartz, which are partly strong are loosened. I think you can hardly get more information (...)

Yeah, he told a lie, those Aquamarine is from Yunxiao Co., those mountains belongs to villagers and they blast the mts and find many minerals. This post may help you some - https://www.facebook.com/groups/mindat/permalink/10156618098622465. That dealer won't be the owner of the mine, the only "miner" is Zhang Cizhou and his family members.

That's a lie, Zhangpu Co. is mainly fine grained granite and a large area of sedimentary rock & basalt. Especially basalt, the famous locality in Zhangpu is Zhangpu Volcanic Island. https://www.facebook.com/groups/mindat/permalink/10156618098622465 This post will give you some further info on the locality. And btw, there are also Bi-color Beryl - Aquarmarine- Morganite, just not a common find. Also "Wushan Mine" in mindat is wrong also.
I just upload 3 locality photos there, the typical rock masses.

No point in uploading a facebook page - in Australia you can't read it - Facebook spat the dummy

That's a bad news for sure, if you want, I could send you a copy by email

Perhaps you could tell us the coordinates for the Bauxite Quarry in Maping Township
the maping township coordinates and  Fotan Township  coordinates

19th Feb 2021 12:22 UTCHercule Shen Expert

Maping - 117.90668887,24.24480079;117.90320096,24.24353954;117.88517508,24.23954676(1st & 2nd are two temporary stacking points, and all closed now)
I don't remember the locality in Fotan as I was not the driver at that time, but Fotan Township(117.91111118,24.17694863) is famous for Fotan formation in paleontology.
They are all fine grained granite - sedimentary rock - basalt and won't output Garnet & Beryl.

19th Feb 2021 13:52 UTCJolyon Ralph Founder

Have marked beryl as erroneously reported.

19th Feb 2021 13:55 UTCJolyon Ralph Founder

THe problem was that Beryl was added as a mineral to the locality list with no valid reference, just "Martin Slama collection"

4th Mar 2021 13:45 UTCUwe Kolitsch Manager

Photo was moved to Yunxiao Co. in the meantime.
Uploader thinks either the dealer confused Zhangpu with Zhangzu, or the writing on the label was hard to read.
