GeneralGerman translator for label - Help!

I recently picked up a specimen of Agate and Amethyst on Ebay. The label with it is in German. I'm trying to determine whether this specimen is from Vosges, Lorraine, France or from some locality in Germany. Since there are a lot of German collectors in Mindat, I'm hoping one of them will see this and help me out.

Thanks in advance.

Looks like the locality is this: http://www.mindat.org/loc-122560.html

For translation I give it a try: agate with layers of amethyst and quartz.

Hope this have helped.

Thank you very much! So it is in the Vosges Mountains. I've actually been in Ribeauville, in 2008 when I made the Ste. Marie aux Mines show.

Translation:

"Agate with layers of Amethyst (-quartz), grinded"

"angeschliffen" actually means "polished", not "ground ('grinded')". "Ground" = "zermahlen".

Ok, Peter, it's my mistake! But "to grind" is also a term for "beschleifen".

Peter, grinding can mean schleifen, polish means polieren even if the term is used for the german term schleifen too. If sth is grinded/ground but not polished bit may be better to write cut (geschnitten) but ground and polished is a different thing. Agree with Martin on that. Could be that there is some difference in AE and BE ... but we all three are no native speakers :-) I´ll throw bevel(l)ing in :-)

Of course it has to be ground not grinded :-)

"Waiter, this coffee tastes like mud!"

" Yes Sir, It was ground this morning."

;-) Rob

but to "grind an axe" definitely doesnt mean to pulverize it ;-)

The interpretation probably also depends on what part of Germany you are from LOL.

Ha! I'm from Austria and not from Germany and it could be possible, that I can not understand German dialect and vice versa. :-D Anyway it is a nice specimen and I hope our discussion do not consternate Stephen.
