Improving Mindat.orgPyrites from Kop Krom mine ?

19th Aug 2006 09:47 UTCDominik Schläfli Expert

Hi All,

Can someone confirm the occurence of pyrite at the Kop Krom mine, as illustrated, or is it just a simple mistake ?

I've been on stonetrips in Turkey. Kop Krom mine is serpentine with chromite. These pyriteXX look like these from Morgul (Murgul) copper-iron mine, also in Turkey, espescially because of their octahedral form.

As Erik says Cakmakkaya Mine, Murgul for the first photo - the lustre & crystal habit of the second photo looks to be Peruvian.

To my knowledge Murgul specimens are pretty well all found as isolated crystals within a tuff matrix.

Have sent 2 complaints.

... 1st is sure Murgul, 2nd maybe also .. had a lot of "pure" octahedrons from there. First is combi of octahedron and pentagondodecahedron

Your complaint is ok @ Uwe :-)

Both pyrites are from the Cakmakkaya Mine, Murgul (it was a simple mistake of the uploader who already kindly made the necessary corrections).
