Colourless cubic fluorite crystals on a bed of numerous small grey cerussite crystals with galena on a limestone matrix, collected in the late 1980s. Moor Farm Quarry on Bonsall Moor is now (as of 2017) quite a dangerous site, being overgrown with extremely unstable rock faces and the quarry itself is no longer really suitable for safely collecting mineral specimens. It was originally much deeper, but has been backfilled at some point. The limestone quarry has many small mineral veins running through it containing calcite with baryte, and fluorite is also evident at the locality. Galena is present in small quantities too, mainly amongst the baryte which also appears in cockscomb form. There are also a number of old lead mine workings on the high ground just east of the quarry. The nearby mine spoil heaps above the quarry reveal plenty of clear rhomboidal calcite along with baryte, galena and some pyrite. Collection and photos: David Carter
