“Reflected plane polarized light digital image.
It is rare for two extremely bireflectant and pleochroic minerals such as vyalsovite and valleriite to be seen together. Vyalsovite has crimson-red to deep grey (slightly purplish) pleochroism while valleriite is khaki brown to deep grey and takes a rather poor polish compared to vyalsovite. Chalcopyrite is yellow and pyrite is slightly higher reflectance and cream in colour. Magnetite appears fairly neutral grey in this highly colourful assemblage.
