EDR-LKRElbaite Na(Li1.5Al1.5)Al6(Si6O18)(BO3)3(OH)3(OH) , Quartz SiO2
Gillette Quarry, Haddam Neck, Haddam, Middlesex County, Connecticut, USADimensions: 8 cm x 6 cm x 5.5 cm
Largest Crystal Size: 42 mm
Elbaite crystal in smoky quartz crystal, a common assemblage at Gillette. This dark green elbaite shows both shades of yellow and pink on the antilogous, rhombohedral termination.
8AL-MPNElbaite Na(Li1.5Al1.5)Al6(Si6O18)(BO3)3(OH)3(OH)
Gillette Quarry, Haddam Neck, Haddam, Middlesex County, Connecticut, USADimensions: 21 mm x 9 mm x 6 mm
Weight: 2.9 g
Rarer analogous (c-) pole showing typical pedion and very flat rhombohedral terminal forms and the typical fading green to nearly colorless terminal color zones of this pole over a dark green elbaite crystal prism. There is also a very thin blue cap right on the termination, not visible in this slightly tilted view but imparting dark color to the terminal faces. Former Ronald Januzzi collection.
38F-NUKElbaite Na(Li1.5Al1.5)Al6(Si6O18)(BO3)3(OH)3(OH)
Gillette Quarry, Haddam Neck, Haddam, Middlesex County, Connecticut, USADimensions: 32 mm x 10 mm x 9 mm
Weight: 4.8 g
Rarer analogous (c-) pole showing typical pedion and very flat rhombohedral terminal forms and the typical fading green to nearly colorless terminal color zones of this pole over a dark green elbaite crystal prism. This one contacted a pink-terminal crystal. Former Ronald Januzzi collection.
CWE-1JCElbaite Na(Li1.5Al1.5)Al6(Si6O18)(BO3)3(OH)3(OH)
Gillette Quarry, Haddam Neck, Haddam, Middlesex County, Connecticut, USADimensions: 42 mm x 15 mm x 8 mm
Weight: 8.1 g
Antilogous (c+) pole rhombohedral termination of a dark green elbaite crystal showing more complex terminal color zones. Former Ronald Januzzi collection.
MJC-D84Elbaite Na(Li1.5Al1.5)Al6(Si6O18)(BO3)3(OH)3(OH)
Gillette Quarry, Haddam Neck, Haddam, Middlesex County, Connecticut, USADimensions: 56 mm x 8 mm x 6 mm
Weight: 7.5 g
Pink over pale green antilogous (c+) pole rhombohedral termination of a dark green elbaite crystal. Former Ronald Januzzi collection.
X69-PXWElbaite Na(Li1.5Al1.5)Al6(Si6O18)(BO3)3(OH)3(OH)
Gillette Quarry, Haddam Neck, Haddam, Middlesex County, Connecticut, USADimensions: 45 mm x 11 mm x 7 mm
Weight: 5.6 g
Pink over pale green antilogous (c+) pole rhombohedral termination of a elbaite crystal. Former Grace Dearborn and Phil Scalisi collections.
R44-R2TElbaite Na(Li1.5Al1.5)Al6(Si6O18)(BO3)3(OH)3(OH)
Gillette Quarry, Haddam Neck, Haddam, Middlesex County, Connecticut, USADimensions: 31 mm x 7 mm x 6 mm
Weight: 3.5 g
Typical pale green, antilogous (c+) pole rhombohedral termination that probably was above a dark green elbaite crystal prism. Former Delario collection, circa 1950.
1R3-3T5Elbaite Na(Li1.5Al1.5)Al6(Si6O18)(BO3)3(OH)3(OH)
Gillette Quarry, Haddam Neck, Haddam, Middlesex County, Connecticut, USADimensions: 28 mm x 20 mm x 16 mm
Weight: 12.4 g
After pale green to yellow, the other common antilogous (c+) pole rhombohedral termination color at Gillette is pink. I find it interesting that many crystals naturally broke just below the terminal color zone, only a bit of the typical green prism color is visible at the bottom of this piece. Former Delario collection, circa 1950.
