A former surface and underground Mn-Cu-Zn-Pb mine located in the E½SW¼ sec. 14, T1N, R15E, about 0.2 miles E of the summit of Buckeye Mountain, about 1¼ miles SE of Copper Hill ghost town site, on private land. The Iron King and Red Oxide are two adjacent patented claims which formerly were part of a larger group held by the Superior and Boston Copper Co. The Superior and Boston explored the Iron King vein for copper. First produced 1945. Owned by Mrs. E. A. Borge (1961). Alternate coordinates provided: 33.4264N, 110.7461W.

Mineralization is an irregular ore body hosted in the Mescal Limestone. The ore zone is 243.84 meters long, 9.14 meters wide, strikes N80E and dips vertically. An associated rock unit is diabase.

The Mn deposits on the Iron King claim occur along a fracture zone occupying a fault contact between diabase and beds of the Mescal Limestone. The zone strikes about N80°E and dips from vertical to 75°N. The higher grade ore of the Iron King claim appears to be localized along the strike in several disconnected shoots ranging from 30 to 150 feet in length and from 3 to 8 feet in width. The Mn deposits on the neighboring Red Oxide claim occur in a fracture zone cutting the Mescal Limestone. This zone is about 700 feet north of the Iron King deposit and strikes N45°E and dips steeply northwest.

The Iron King workings consisted of three shafts and a few shallow opencuts. Except for a few pillars the ore was mined continuously from the surface to a depth of 150 feet. Mn production was principally from the Iron King.

Assay data: Iron King, West shaft dump sample contained: 22.7% Mn, 13.6% CaCO3, 0.43% Pb, 1.35% Zn, and 0.04% Cu. The Iron King, East shaft dump sample contained: 10.5% Mn, 12.6% CaCO3, 0.32% Pb, 0.7% Zn, and 0.04% Cu. The Red Oxide dump sample contained: 10.6% Mn, 38.5% CaCO3, 0.23 Pb, 0.2% Zn, and 0.03% Cu.
