Brinrobertsite was found in a metabentonite of the Ordovician Nant Ffrancon formation outcropping on the coast at Aber-Ogwen near Bangor.

The Nant Ffrancon formation occurs widely across parts of Gwynedd and elsewhere hosts a number of small and largely unsuccessful iron mines that exploited sedimentary deposits precipitated within the mudstone.
