The settlement Kangaamiut on this island (with the same name ?), was earlier called "Gammel Sukkertoppen". The settlement was moved to Maniitsoq which in danish today is called the new Sukkertoppen. Elder litterature references mentioning "Sukkertoppen" refers to this island.
