Ref.: New York State Museum Bull. 223,224, Newland, David H. (July-August 1919), The Mineral Resources of the State of New York: 77, 112. An iron mine in magnetite ore located on Palmer Hill, 2 miles North of Au Sable Forks. Ore body was 2,000 feet long and 2,200 feet deep. In 1836, this mine installed the first crude magnetic concentrator to be operated in the Adirondack Mountains.
