Katanga Copper Crescent; Zaïre
High-grade iron oxide deposit, comprising two orebodies separated by a barren zone. The ore includes trace amounts of Cu, Co, Zn, and Au and relics of pyrite at depth. The deposit probably represents a gossan formed by recent weathering of massive primary pyrite. Mining stopped here in the 1970's and the open pit has been filled with water (2015).
