Lauzon and Levis formation slates and limestone conglomerates are exposed here. These are formations on that formed in the late Cambrian, Early Ordovician Japetus Ocean on the continental platform of Lauremtia, according to latest theory. "At the base of the Lauzon Formation, a limestone conglomerate (Ville Guay conglomerate) resulted from erosion of a thrombolite reef following a continental shelf collapse." Ref Hugues Longuepee. There was much study of the fossils found in the Cambian limestone boulders in this conglomerate by Franco Rasetti. During the later Taconic mountain building and closing of Japetus ocean the sediments were faulted and hydrocarbons migrated along some faults.
