An historic mine developed in 1903 for the recovery of rutile concentrate.
The area was also explored for mica in the late 1980s.
This locality is recorded as being south of the Cromer C quarry in 'Fossickers Guide to Gold, Minerals and Gemstones of South Australia', by Len Dallow. Recent research has found this to be incorrect. The shafts listed in this publication are in fact part of the original Cromer C lease.
The locality lays within the boundaries of the Mount Crawford Forest section adjacent to the designated fossicking area.
Please Note:
While this is NOT part of the fossicking area of the Mount Crawford Forest, Gem & Mineral clubs have been able to arrange trips here previously.
A large percentage of the rutile listed as 'Williamstown' or 'Mt. Crawford' has come from Cromer C, or Australian Industrial Minerals (A.I.M) Quarry.
