The Monowai seamount, an active submarine volcano located on the Tonga-Kermadec ridge, has been named and the bathymetry described by Davey (1980, New Zealand Journal of Geology and Geophysics, 23:4). The volcanic cone rises from depths of 1000-1500 m to about 120 m; at the 1000 m depth contour it is elongated NNW-SSE with length of 11 km and width of 8 km, and with the steepest flank on the southeast side having a slope of 20Β°.
