The Havana deposit represents a laterally continuous high grade planar lense up to 50 metres thick, dipping 30-50 degrees south-east, overlain by lower grade quartzo-feldspathic gneiss. It is then overlain by alternating quartzo-feldspathic and garnet gneiss, cut by steep dipping basalt dykes.
It is separated from the Tropicana deposit by north-east to east striking, variable dipping, Muddler, Swizzler and Cobbler shear zones.
The average thickness of the ore zone is 30 metres, striking for 2 kilometres. In the central and southern parts of the deposit, the ore body is overlain by lower grade stacked thinner (2-25) metre ore zones dominated by the quartz-feldspathic gneiss. The stacked lodes contain gold up to 3 g/t with a 0.3 g/t envelope. These can converge to form thick composite zones of higher grades.
A notable feature of the Havana deposit, is the garnet gneiss facies, 200 metres thick, dominating the area immediately next to the Hanging Wall. Chert is interleaved in the deposit with garnet gneiss at the base of the stratigraphic horizon. Intervals of amphibolite, granulite and quartzo-feldspathic gneiss form sub-ordinate, laterally discontinuous to continuous intervals within the Hanging Wall sequence. Gold grades here are lower than the main deposit.
