Köppen climate type:
Sarusas is in an area of the Skeleton Coast Park (restricted access). Quartz variety carnelian is particularly abundant in this area. The carnelian weathers out from vugs in the Etendeka basalt, as do the agates in the same area known as the Sarusas amethyst. Three types of Etendeka basalt are distinguished and only one of these contain the geodes in a ridge that runs approximately SSE-NNW. At least twenty four pits exist in an area of approximately 16 km.
