Greigite crystals and grains (from 0,1 mm to 3-4 cm in size) are found into a blue-grey clay formation ("Argilla del Bradano") which crops out near Montemesola. These clays are interposed between grey-greenish clays at their bottom and yellow clays at the top. Estimated age of the sedimentary series: from upper Pliocene to Calabrian (Pleistocene).
