An U-V occurrence located in approximate secs. 29 & 30, T39N, R31E, G&SRM, on the Arizona-New Mexico line. The file title infers multiple mines in this group. The group apparently spans the state line since there is a Upper Canyon Mine on the New Mexico side of the line. The geographic coordinates presented are for the approximate center of the boundary of secs. 29 & 30.
Mineralization is an U-V deposit hosted in a light gray, fine-grained Salt Wash Member sandstone, 20 feet above the Bluff Member contact. Tyuyamunite mineralization lies in a broad, poorly defined channel. The ore is exposed continuously for 85 feet and discontinuously for 300 feet. Pintadoite was identified on several faces.
Workings include underground openings comprised of numerous short adits, a 400 foot incline that is flooded, never access by adit from rim.
Production was 2,809 tons of ore @0.17% U3O8; 2.06% V2O5 (1950-1956, 1961-1964).
Geology: Channeling and cross lamination noted, ore has high lime content
Rock formation(s): Salt Wash Member of Morrison Formation
Ore(s): Ore Is Found In Clusters, Usually Associated With Carbonaceous Detritus
