A Mn-Fe occurrence/group of 11 claims located in sec. 23, T13N, R20W, G&SRM, 3.4 km (2.1 miles) SSW of Lake Havasu City center, on state park land. Located by George Howard. In 1917 E.C. Humphreys obtained an option and started mining. NOTE: The USGS MRDS database presents MRDS file #10137710 as a related file; however, the coordinates presented in that file indicate that this is another Mn locality.

The rocks of the local small hills consist of an older series of gneiss, diorite, and granitic rocks of Precambrian age, and a younger series of basalt and sandstone of Quaternary or late Tertiary age. Near the manganese deposit the basalt is seemingly intruded into the sandstone. The basalt is decomposed and the abundant amygdules are filled with black calcite that is manganiferous.

Mineralization is a Mn deposit hosted in the diorite, gneiss and granite. The ore body strikes NW and dips NE at ba width of 1.52 meters. Controls for ore emplacement included breccia and fissure fillings. The hard ores give way to soft manganese oxides at shallow depths. Several veins and brecciated zones cut the basalt or lie on the contact of basalt and sandstone. Most of these veins lie in a zone which trends WNW and dips steeply NE. One vein was observed which strikes a little East of North and dips SE. Ore occurs as small shoots in the fissures. The veins and brecciated zones range from a few inches (a few centimeters) to 5 feet (1.5 meters) wide. The manganese oxides are psilomelane and pyrolusite. Calcite is abundant everywhere in these deposits. Associated rocks include Pliocene-Neoproterozoic sandstone. Local rocks include Quaternary surficial deposits, undivided.

Workings include surface openings comprised of 10 or more open cuts with an overall length of 152.4 meters. The 10 open cuts range from 20 to 80 feet long and up to 10 feet deep.

Production was about 150 tons of ore prior to 1918.

Analytical data results: Ore was judged to contain 35% Mn, 8% Fe.
