A former lode Au mine located in the SW¼ sec. 15 and in the SE¼ sec. 16, T3N, R13E, MDM, about 3.65 km SE of Dogtown, on the E slope of German Ridge and W of the Kiefer Reservoir (5½ miles road miles NE of Angels Camp). Property was 82 acres. Originally active prior to 1889. Intermittently active to the 1920's and during the period 1931 to 1934. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in slate and porphyry. The ore body strikes N47W and dips N70E at a thickness of 3.05 meters. Controls for ore emplacement involved quartz next to the slate footwall. The ore occurrs in rich pockets. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada) and/or pre-Cenozoic metasedimentary and metavolcanic rocks undivided.
Workings include underground openings with an overall depth of 42.67 meters and comprised of a 140 foot shaft with levels at 55 and 100 feet, and drifts up to 150 feet to the NW & SE.
The vein ranges from 2 to 10 feet in thickness. The dip was reported to steepen below the 100 foot level. The footwall is slate and the hanging wall is porphyry. The schist is interlaced with veinlets of quartz.
Production data are found in: Clark, Wm. B. & P.A. Lydon (1962).
